About Bjorn
Hey! My name is Bjorn and a cool and random fun fact about me is that I'm a triplet (we don't look anything alike)! I'm currently a student at the Carlson School of Management, where I'm majoring in Entrepreneurial Management. I plan to graduate in the fall of 2024, graduating one semester early. Ever since I was little, I have been entrepreneurial and have been involved with a multitude of businesses and projects. I've started two photography companies, one as me being an individual with Bjorn Franke Photography, and the other working with a larger team known as Shotspot. From learning everything I can about global markets, the ins and outs of sports media, and how to create and execute business ideas, I feel confident in my abilities to succeed in pursuing photography upon graduation from the University of Minnesota.
During my time as a student at the U, I've worked with Gopher Athletics as a Student Photographer. This opportunity has had the biggest impact on my life. The University of Minnesota has always been my dream school and I've had a divine love of sports (especially hockey). It has been wonderful working with the photography department where I have learned what goes on in professional creative departments. Since my freshman year, I have grown my action photography, post-editing, and technological skills. I am excited to see where this experience takes me.
A cool opportunity as of late that I have overseen is being the League Photographer for Da Beauty League. This league comprises some of the top NHL, AHL, NCAA, and other professional hockey players from Minnesota and is the best summer hockey league. I cover action and any promotional content that the marketing department may use in graphics or on social media. My work has been featured on ESPN, Bleacher Report, and the NHL from the exposure Da Beauty League gets.
I have been recognized and have been honored as well. Recently, I was a finalist in the World Sports Photography Awards in 2023 for one of my ice hockey photos. I also have been a finalist for Gopher Sports Photo of the Year in each of my three years while being a student. I was invited by NCAA Photos to participate in their annual Women's Final Four Workshop, where I learned from some of the best sport photographers and networked with other students. I have recently dabbled into portraits as of late and still shoot astrophotography for fun!
